OK i have a workman SWR-1000 and a midland model 23-134 and thay show very different swing and pep watts. what is going on . cheap junk or what. what would be a good affordable meter to buy?

As long as you stay under 1000 watts, the Radio Shack meter is very close to Bird watts. Jessejamesdallas even did the testing.
The meter is kinda small compared to others though but it isn't too expensive.
