galaxy mirage 88 keeps melting diode

i have a galaxy mirage 88 keeps blowing the reverse polarity diode in between the positive and negative hookups everytime i put a new diode in and hook up power i get no lights or anything and the diode gets red hot and burns in half what am i doing wrong or what should i replace
