Qustion for you tube guys

I have a Sonar BR-21 and it uses 4 6JB6's (which have a dissipation rating of 17.5 watts) what would it take to get it to work with say 4 6JE6C's (which have a 30 watt dissipation). Both tubes are very similar just a few differences, would I have to make modifications to the supporting circuit? Anybody ever try something like this? If my thinking is way off please let me know as I'm am very interested in learning all I can about these old tube amps. Thanks BTW if anyone is interested the specs on these tubes can be found on this site [Please login or register to view this link]

The tubes are interchangeable. The power transformer would have to be changed
to supply double the amount of current for the high voltage also you would
have to be drive it with about 50 to 75 watts. If you could get a transformer from
an old Palomar 300 it should work.

Ok so if I get a transformer that can supply double the current, do you think I could drive it with a 2 tube(6JU6) Sonar BR-2906? If that works it might be time to invest it some new tubes. :D

That would be just about the right amount of drive for 4 6je6c you could
also subsitute a 6lq6 instead of the 6je6c sometimes their cheaper a 6lb6
is another choice. Also make sure that the filament voltage is 6 volts if
you get anthother transformer if its 12 volts you could run 2 tubes in seris

Sorry I posted before I was finished. Also make sure that you have enough current
to supply the filaments. The 6ju6 is 1.2 amps per tube and the 6je6c is 2.5 amp per
tube. Here is a link for tubes about the cheapeast I've found [Please login or register to view this link]
I also have a link where you can the transformer and alot of other parts for tube
linears I will look for it and post it for you.

The link for the tranformer is [Please login or register to view this link] look for Linear Parts the
transformer you would need is for the Context 500 both for the HV and Filaments you might have to mount it on a seperate chassis and run your wires to the amp it's pretty big. There
also is a mod to change the 6je6 or 6lq6 to a 6kg6 shown right below the parts listing the
tube is alot less expensive. Also look for Mods for CB. If you need Schematics for Tube
Linears [Please login or register to view this link] is a good place to look.

Thank you for all the information, now I have a bunch of options to look at. I'll post back with what I end up doing and how it worked, also I'll probably have more questions.

Here is more information that you might find helpful. If you change out the
tubes and transformer you should end up with something like the
Dentron GLA 1000 [Please login or register to view this link] I built one
years ago using an old Johnson Viking 2 Tranmitter as the chassis it ran about
700 watts PEP.
Here is a link if you want to try building a homebrew amp it shows how to wind your own
chokes and coils and picking different tubes [Please login or register to view this link]
This is a tube data base link [Please login or register to view this link] good for cross referenceing tubes it
shows pinouts, dissapation, voltage, and current.
