rci 2990 vs. 2995dx
i have the 2990, everything works great, but i cant help eyeing the 2995dx. has anyone owned both? how is the build quality on the new ones ? is the new one just as heavy? (meaning they didnt skimp on th power supply) same output finals? seems the 2990 has 3 more knobs? any opinions appreciated. 209

the RCI 2995dx is a nice system, as im a owner of one, the only diffrents that i know of is the 2990 has the echoe built into it, and the 2995 doesnt and the 2990 has orange color to the face and the 2995 has green to it, and i think the 2995 has more power than the 2990 - that part i may be wrong though, mine can go from 2 watts up to 180 watts, other than that both are good radios...Dj

It will outperform the 2990 and/or the 2995 on recieve
because the filtering is better. As long as the limiters are
intact on the rci's they will sound great on ssb...just not
as good filtering in the rx. Of course, there's the small
issue of other hf bands and gen. coverage recieve on
the Icom

Indeed bootymonster, good call. After the icom rebate, the 718 is the same price as the 2995dx.DX47 wrote:718 is the way to go.
And you get full HF coverage.
The new yaesu ft-450 is cute, but its $300 more.

Hey 209,
I have two 2995's and they are dynamite! I use the echo-max Astatic mic on them
but I did replace all of the wiring in them with Teflon wire and beefed up the power
supply. Then swept the entire board with a spectrum analyzer. Every radio has a
few bugaboos. Ranger should be spanked for using cheapy azz wire and not
beefing up the power supply.
