am-ssb or export for base
Good morning all...
I am planing to use a Mobile as a base for a while and I am not sure which one will be the most FUN.
I have a swp Gen Lee from RA and I will have a Galaxy 959 swp/sr from Mike soon.
Let me know what you think will make the best, most fun, base. The 959 has ssb but is only CB. The GL is a GL but no ssb.
Please keep in mind, I have used up most of my radio money for this year so another radio is out of the question for a while.
Thanks and I hope you all have a great week/weekend

You'll soon forget about the 959, after firing up the Super Wack Packed Lee on the base. You got great results and skip tlaking from your Lil Wil, on the SWP General Lee. Imagine the Lee on the base.
Putting channels in the 959 is a option, but after you add that up, you should of bought maybe a RCI 2950DX.
Its never ending!!!!! LOL

I don't advocate free banding, so I would say the SWP 959 would be a great choice. That way you can have AM/SSB fun for awhile.
What makes the setup fun is the antenna it's running too, You can have a Gen Lee hooked up to a rubber duck magnet mount and it won't be too impressive will it? =-)
To put things in perspective..... I talked to Chile South America today for 5 mins on a 5/8 wave vertical and about 35 watts PEP... Doesn't take a double stacked beam and 1500 watts, that is for sure =-)

If I could get the conditions working in my favor I could talk to china on a handheld too!samskip wrote:I don't advocate free banding, so I would say the SWP 959 would be a great choice. That way you can have AM/SSB fun for awhile.

its not all about the watts, I gotta agree. only time I run my box is when someone decides to have a p#$sing contest while im trying to talk skip. good luck with your decision on a base.

Just need to get that height =-) That probably had something to do with my chili contact..... 800 feet above the local terrain and 2050 Ft ASL. But he said we was running 45 watts and I as running my 35 watts, stock watts! Even underpowered because I should actually be at about 95 watts, but I didn't have the proper power to the radio to do that.
But my S.A. contact wasn't 11 meter, it was on 10 meter.... (Ahhhh how some days it's nice to get away from the screaming and yelling and 2000 watt splatter machines on 11 meter and work clean, un-trampled DX 5500 miles away =-) at the bottom of the cycle!!!)
Handleheld radios to china?! Where do I get one
