anttron 99 - cheap - the coily enforcer -costs some $$$. the anttron 99-- works ok, easy to tune. the coily enforcer-- looks like it would work REAL well. like to have one of those myself. :D

I WAS LOOKING AT MAYBE GETTING AN ENFORCER BUT I WENT WITH THE MACO V5000. I DONT HAVE IT UP YET BUT I THINK IT WILL DO A GOOD JOB. THE ENFORCER WAS JUST TO EXPENSIVE FOR ME. BUT I HEAR THEY ARE A-1 ANTENNAS.

an anttron is a 1/2 wave, the coily is .64 wave. The coily will outperform the anttron but if you are in that price range you might try the maco V 5000 or Jays, they're 5/8 wave antennas with proven performance.

Imax 2000 or Shakespeare ABS-1600 5/8 wave verticals..... Just make sure you get a 5/8 wave, just waste your time on a 1/2 wave only to upgrade later.

Somebody school me here, and I'm keeping a wide open mind, cause the more I learn the dumber I feel. That Mr. Coily looks cool, but why would you ever want to go with an antenna with a coil on a base? Is it considered a .64 wave because when you use a coil you have to use more length to attain a match? If their coil is the better way to go, why not use it in the radials too? It's not like you're driving around hitting stuff, so why skimp on height, and pay more to do so? -drdx
Yes it's me, Dollar-98, drdx, the original all maul, shot cawla on workin this no-fade technology.

drdx,
the coil is the matching network for that particular antenna. It's Coily's way of pre-setting the match before shipping. I don't prefer coils in the base of any antenna that's not mounted way high because the strongest radiation will be at that coil and that's a cause of TVI. The Maco and Jay's I referred to earlier use a gamma match, (Maco) or a beta match (Jay's). These types have proved through the years to be lots more forgiving where TVI is concerned. And the Coily is @ $450, Jay's @ $290, Maco lots less...

the impedance matching ring where the tubing overlaps that spacing changes with temp. summer to winter and it changes the swr. I used a piece of solid Teflon tubing cut to length to keep the spacing the book calls for. That solved the problem. The 10k is what I am getting. My buddy had a maco v5000 his neighbor wanted to hang him. He got a 10k last year and the swr is stable his neighbor actually hangs out in his backyard now. NO BLEED . Same filter same amps and radio. For me it's worth it.

True indeed, Shakespeare was almost losing money on the ABS-1600 because they did use the best materials and construction procedures. I love my ABS-1600 and have always gotten A++ reports with it, but just for those interested, it may be on the 'for sale' market soon =-) .....

I doubt I ever have the spare money to buy one, but the coily antenna looks like one of the best built I've ever seen. The man didn't try to build an antenna the cheapest he could, it looks like he built it the best he could.

the imax 2000 is actually a .64 wave antenna . [Please login or register to view this link]
lots of stuff on different forums about fiberglass vs aluminum antennas . i would lean towards aluminum myself .
the 5000 and v5/8 are very cost effective antennas . choosing one over a coily base or I10 leaves a few hundred towards a small beam and rotor which will really open up some options for you that do things no omni can do . you could do a 3 element with the omni and about break even cost wise or spend a lil more on a 4 or 5 element beam . sparkys has rebuilt rotors for about $130 .[Please login or register to view this link]
good luck
