I found someone that wanted my ol' president Zachery T base radio in trade for his Eagle Tomahawk. Of course the Eagle tomahawk needed a bit of help. one of the pins was broke off where mic plugs in(had to go to CB shop and drop $20 on a new 6 pin connector) and no mic was included. I know this radio works because the CB shop tested it for me before I took it home. It has already been converted to 11 meter. What channels can I legally talk on without a liscence? This would be my first 10 meter.

Ohh and what would be a decent mic to go along with this setup? I was thinking astatic.

anyhow, lemme know what everyone thinks. I know the magnum would prolly have been a better choice, but, heck I only had $50 wrapped up into the president. and will prolly only have about $50 in labor into this one to have it shooting skip.

Nice find unrealantidote

By the FCC rules you can not talk on any of the channels on a 10 meter radio legally with out an amateur radio license. And if you do have an amateur radio license your not allowed to use a 10 meter radio to talk on 11 meter. You can talk on 11 meter with out a license on a FCC approved CB radio(that means just as the factory made it no tune ups and only 4 watts :( ) but not on a 10 meter radio converted for 11 meter. But of the people you hear on CB, 11 meter radio almost all ether are running a tuned up CB or a converted 10 meter rig.73s

not technically, any amatuer radio is actually illegal if it has been converted for 11m, thats just what the rules say.

I am not saying not to do it, my magnum 257 covers 10 and 11m and I use them for both. It is handy to have because I still enjoy 11m, and I mainly use it for that, but I use 10m everynow and then. Nice to have it all in one radio.

I believe the eagle tomahawk is basically the same as the 257 if I am not mistaken.

Actually, no you can't. Regardless of whether you have a license or not, a 10 meter radio is NOT type accepted for 11 meters because, on most, the receive and transmit frequencies are variable and they have higher power levels than type accepted CB radios.
