Mike

Hi,

I'm French but understand an average of 80 %-85% English conversation.

Where I have problems is when people use expression (is it the good word?).

I heard sometimes guys telling I'm back quiet...As you wrote Mike.

What does it mean exactly? Something like 10-10 ?

Thank you.

Well, I was on from before 8:pm, my time which is 7pm your time, all the way to 10pm or 9pm your time. Gave a few shouts every 15 minutes for you and for Bam Bam, but it was really quiet. I could hear some loudmouths on the 'Bowl', but even they faded out after a while...no luck for the Mud Duck in the Buckeye.

What's happening,

for six days now, we have no conditions in Canada.

At least, looking for conditions tonight, I've found two guys running stations on SSB at 20 miles from me. I wasn't able to hear them when skip was rolling.

Twas good to hear some new locals.

But I'm missing skip a bit.

I'm down in Houston still and I've had zero conditions. The closest thing to any skip at all was some faint stuff in the evenings but barely enough to hear, coming from Florida into Tx.

The sunspot number crashed a bit this week. Its on a general trend up, at least for the next few years, but right now its only at 33. When it is above 60, the skip starts getting better. When it is above 100 is when you get into 1000s of miles on a cheap antenna and a few watts territory

Yesterday afternoon I was in N Little Rock, AR and heard a guy 500 miles away in Austin, TX with my mobile setup (1001z+Lil Wil) on ch28. 4/5 that faded in and out occasionally.

When I look at the solarcycle website, what number are you looking at that shows the sunspot number?

Its where it says "Solar terrestrial data"

SN: = sunspot number

you want to see high SFI and SN numbers, and low A and K index numbers..

Of course you can still see skip come in for other reasons even when the sun is quiet, it's just that sunspot related skip is the most reliable (when its here that is)

Hey all,

Today was my furthest skip contact, from the Evergreen State to Georgia on my mobile, talked to 223 for quite a while, he said I was coming in over everyone else. Runnin with my X Force 4 pill, it was quite awesome. I have skipped to Chicago, Nebraska and most points west of there, but this was my crown jewel, oh yeah, next is Hawaii for me!!

Tough time again,

Nothing really impressive in skip conditions, but some signals coming up strong for a minute or two.

Two times in Kentucky tonight. But a first time for me: a contact on the Superbowl, on 10h PM. The guy was shooting an s-9 on me (as always), but most of the time, I don't even try. With my new radio (2995 DX) I said to me, may be I have a chance. On the second call, I heard: about 625 Quebec Canada, about 625....He was calling me. 30 seconds of contact, but a first time I won' t forget.

He was s-9, but one minute after, lost in the general noise.

Tried some others people after that, but twas very quiet.

After 11h30 PM...Nothing at all.

73s for you all.

Unfortuneately the sunspots just took a turn in other direction, maybe will get lucky with some E skip, otherwise it doesn't look like mother nature is going to make the atmosphere reflective enough for us mudducks...

Not even hearing "the bowl" today in upstate new york. That pretty much says the north-south highway is closed, considering most of those guys sound like they never left the bayou...

Same here in Ohio. I heard about 10 mins on 38LSB last night, and then gone!! Nothing today, not even the megawatt mumbling and stumbling on "the bowl"! Last good skip day here was Sunday, August 8th...that's 10 days of static.

Its the same here in the Midwest today, nothing on ANY channel but locals, I guess we are having some strange weather conditions or something that is playing a part in the lack of DX.....and you know when the 20+KW boys are not on the bowl, something is wrong!!

Worked Nova Scotia (forget the call) and 605 in Indiana, both in the mobile, around 40w, gotta love the sideband. Nova Scotia was only running 12 back, sounded almost like a local.

Skip was rolling tonight when I got back in around 9:30PM eastern here in the Buckeye. Best skip in almost 2 weeks. Heard "Pop-aTop" and a lot of Miss and Louisiana. Omaha Nebraska 76 and 161 were booming. 26,27,28 and 17 am as well as the "Bowl". The wind was blowing and Mother Nature's skirt was a flyin!

Oowatanite,

It's was my birthday yesterday and Mother nature gave me a gift.

Good skip from 5h PM to 6h PM and from 9h PM to midnight.

For the first time I heard people on otherband than the CB ones.

Let me tell you, there's a lot of people out there I was able to hear.

FCC will have some jobs. :icon_e_wink:

I don't the Foxtrot Charlie Charlie is going to worry to much about the freqs between 27.405 and the beginning of the 10 meter ham band (28.000). Those are in use in CB in a lot of places overseas I think..

Now the frequencies below the standard 40, could be another story, there are a few that are used in automatic ALE (frequency hopping) HF coms in the military and whatnot. Although even those aren't used nearly as much as they were even 15 years ago. Still, I wouldn't hang out long, if at all at 25MHZ..

Skip's workin' this mornin' in Lafayette, LA.

Heard 6222 Indiana, 109 Indiana & Don King, TN, on the Superbowl. Then got unit 139, Mr. Tennessee, Mr Bodyguard, Bluegill in Austin TX, 662 Bluegrass, Collector on the Bluegrass talking to 1111 Jackson, MS, and Screwdriver, Kentucky talking to Scorpio Lady u/k location. I was underneath 4 powerlines & surrounded by 40 foot trees at the time. That surely helped reception
