Having just gotten back into CB I'm not sure what is the "local" channel around here. I live in Washington State about 15 miles from Portland, Or and so far. other than skip, it's been pretty quite around here. I have talked to a couple of locals in the evenings on channel 17 (not truckers) but other than that I'm still trying to find traffic. Back in the 70's and 80's it was pretty crazy around here day and night!

I'm in Central Wisconsin and there is NO local channel where I'm at. I rarely hear any locals on any channel in any mode on 10, 11, 0r 12 meters. I can count the times I've talked with people locally in the past 18 months on one hand. I don't sit on 19 and desperately try to get radio checks. That's not me at all, so when I get an itch to talk I'll bring up a subject or two and see if anyone wants to chat that or if anything else is on their mind and I do it in a polite manner, so that if someone was wanting to use their equipment, it would be a darn good time to do it. Still nothing in this area. My EDX and Wilson 5000 has a decent enough sound and range to reach out to the whole area, but with no response, I got a 4-pill amp and made sure it was grounded and supplied, and that my standing wave was where it should be(it is @ 1.1-1 on 11 meters) and now I just talk to people when skip is rolling in. No local channel here.

Wow, violator that sux.
You would be blown away by the local scene around here! It's divided, south of Birmingham they run ch. 24, north of Birmingham (where I am) we run ch. 30.
Everyday there are the usual suspects on these channels with new people popping in from time to time, some stick around, some don't.

That would be a blast! Maybe there's a way I could just be on the radio and start a buy sell or trade all by myself starting with just my stuff and see if that turns into a local channel. Any other ideas? I'd love to hear 'em. Thanks! 73's gentlemen.

Magoffin County Kentucky here, and me and the locals hang out on AM channel 3. Sometimes a couple of them that have multiple bands on their radios will flip down to 26.785 if channel 3 gets crowded. There's a bunch of guys in the next county over that I can hear from here on AM channel 2, and about once a week they have church over channel 2 complete with singing and everything.

Me and my family generally have family comms over channel 10 to keep from crowding other channels too much, and when it's just me and my wife (Like if I go out and she's at home) we'll flip to upper side band to reduce the amount of interference we produce and reduce day-time interference from other people riding in on skip.

Well here in Australia, we use 35 LSB as our un official call channel, but everyone seems to sandbag and chew the rag on so much that it's hard to get a call in at times.....Channel 16 is the official call channel, but you would never know......not often I hear to many calls going out on it! I myself hang about on 37,38,39 LSB as that seems to be where I get most stateside Skip contacts, and a fair bit of Alaska and Canada as well, so my my narrow band antenna's are tuned for the top end of the band as that's where I'm sitting most of the time.

Here in North East England we use 27.78125 which is the UKFM channel 38.

With the introduction of AM/SSB in July we will be using channel 27 mid band (27.275) for SSB contacts and channel 14 mid band (27.125) for AM contacts.
