Well,I just pulled the trigger on a predator 10K 17" shaft.Ive been trying half a dozen different antennas and came to the conclusion that they all do the job,However, I did like the manner in which the predator is constructed(very nice).I have been a big fan of wilsons over the past years but these antennas are really nice. :icon_e_wink:

I've always liked and used the Wilson antennas, but recently went back to the old school 102 inch whip, can't beat the SWR's and the performance. I have used the whip on an off for the past 25 years or so and always have a couple in the shop, my son got one and I'm presently running the second. I do want a 10K though !!!

I love my 102 but I always wanted to try a predator. Maybe when I get some more cash flow I will get one and try it out.

well I have two favorites. My first one is the wilson 5000 and my second is the 102inch whip. Performance of both of them is amazing. :r&r:

If so are the Wilson brand just assembled there or if you actually took the tour would you see boxes from china were the whips and shafts are made? Do they actually have a machine that winds thier famous copper coils? Or do they come pre made from China ready to assemble? The next time I go and visit our dealers in the mid west I am going to stop by and take the tour and check out the dumpters for the packaging thier raw materials come in.

Back in the early 90's I used to work at a Wal-Mart distribution center in Memphis. The commercials on TV back then promoted how they will sell American made brands. Well my job was a verifier for this red neck operation. That consisted of verifying merchandise that would go to each store, thier way of double checking that each trailer had exactly what the invoices said. They gave me a walking meter to verify that I actually walked so many miles each day to prove I was doing my job. Well during these miles of daily verification I never counted any products made in a Amercia except for dog houses that looked like igloos. But Wal-Mart paid millions of dollars advertising how they are helping American businesses.

We back out reading the mail. 8)
wilsons are made in china its printed right on the package!

Depends on the application, no doubt. Custom modified Monkey Made 5 wrap (only 43.5" tall) for my truck and a Wilson 5000 mag for the econobox. You have to optimize your antenna based on the ground plane that you have to work with and the desired propagation pattern you need to get to where you want to go.

Yeah, I love the 102's. Nothing beats it for mobile and they do work pretty well for a base in some situations.

That location keeps the coax as far away from the noise source as possible. The height to the tip is 13' 9 1/2"s exactly. I never hit any power lines but have taken down some fluorescent light covers and bulbs at a local gas station. The locals call my truck "Tree Trimmer". The swr's, I got it at 1.1 to 1 on ch 19 sitting still and do go up slightly at 80 mph, 1.6 to 1, (checked this using another person) but not enough to damage a radio. I am looking for a mount that fits inside the stake hole made by (don't think I can say) but the website states they are no longer making them do to prolong illness. This mount makes a cleaner looking installation.

Anybody ever here of a Triple X Moonwalker, it was a 30" to 36" antennae that could handle 1000 watts. My parents had one of these back in the 70's and it was great. We shot skip with thing all over the country. I think it could be a registered weapon since it was about 3/4" thick and could be used as a club. It was not pretty but it worked really well. Any one know it they are still being made? I am just getting back in to this hobby and trying to find out what is the best set up. I have a 2001 Expedition and want to install a President Grant with a Kicker and and an antennae that I can clear a drive through with. Please let give me your thoughts. Thank You! Doug :bounce:

You can choose the 102" or you can settle for a compromise. Your choice.

The 3' Wilson Silver Load

In the 70's my Dad ran a 102" whip off of the back bumper and talked everywhere with a Sharp 23 Ch. I have run several 3' Wilson Silver Load antena's on Diesel Car's and they sure do get out when you run a ground from the mirror down to the frame!!! It likes up to around 400 watts---the longer ones handle more watts. I have run them on pick ups too, just have to work with them to get the SWR's right.

102'' whip is the way too go for most its all the application ive bent mine in a u and it performs flawlessly and consistently 1.0 swr from 1 to 40 yes it does jump a tad bit when swaying but not as much as you would expect the meter never goes over 1.2/1.3. I must say though I have had a good time with monkey a made antenna in my bosses 379 Pete definitely needs to be some numbers crunching done to find the best... ive heard very good things from those 10k's but also alto of bad but that goes with the territory .

I remember when I was younger I thought I was something with a Mobile Moonraker.

Well the Mobile Moonraker was an ok antenna because I got dusted by a 102" stainless steel whip.

Learned my lesson that day and for 12 to 10 meters that is what I use except with a variation that I like.

More round (fatter) antenna elements get better bandwidth. There you have it.

I have a Sirio PERFORMER-5000. It will handle 2000 watts. This is a mobile antenna good for 11 and 100 meter operation.

base: sirio gainmaster or sirio tornado ( I have both up right now ) and the tornado is quieter on receive and gets out great!

I have had an imax till the wind got to it and something came loose inside so I wont buy another,, and had a maco 5/8, but just didn't like the swr change when it was raining

mobile: sirio 5000 (had a Wilson 1000 till it filled up with moisture), the sirio 5000 does a little better at distance than the Wilson 1000

so now I have all sirio antennas and am very happy with how they all are working out!!
