Go with 2 antennas. A a-99 or Imax (your choice) and a wire antenna as NightCrawler suggested. A G5RV is a good way to start. Being fed by twin lead (I use 300ohm) makes it multi-band from 6 through 80 meters, add a tuner, and your good to go.
Use the Galaxy on 10, even though you can't get between the frequencies to join in some conversations, call cq where you can. If some one answers, that will that. Sometimes others will hear and "qsk" to join in.
