DIY Tower Guy Wire Ideas

The cable through the hose idea lonesome 500 had is a good one for the top of the tower. If it was me I would rather do the 6X6 posts in the ground rather than the auger anchors. I would set them in some quick-mix concrete and then run an eye bolt through the post about 4 inches from the top to attach the cable and turnbuckles too. However that may be more money than you wanted to spend right now and also take more time. And you could always do that later if you went ahead now and did the auger set-up. But I believe that would be stronger and more out of the way than the auger anchors.

Anyone got a picture or a link to those mobile home hurricane strap deals? I looked online and couldn't find it...but I may have been tying it in wrong.
I guess I'll try the stake idea for now, and then as ya'll said, upgrade to the 6x6 posts later on after this storm season dies down.
Lonesome: I hear ya on the 75 ft mark. With different verticals on this same setup, I never had a problem. A week ago with 85mph winds, I walked outside, and the top of my tower was swaying 5 ft. I know the tower has to sway a bit or it'd just break, but that's a little too much for me. A moonraker doesn't weigh enough to warrant that type of movement.
I'm thinking the stress point is around the 25 ft mark, so I'm going to go to maybe the 32 or so ft mark and guy it off. I'll still have about 10 ft of tower exposed and my schedule 80 pipe.
It's held up this long with just the house brackets at 15 ft and the 500lbs of concrete, so I'm guessing anything I add would only add to the s strength of the tower.

Oh, and thank you for that link. Im gonna print some of those off and take them to some of the hardware stores locally and see what I can come up with. Those look pretty sturdy. The ground is very wet here since it's been raining a lot, so I'm sure I could get them in the ground.

This might help you in some way or another ...Those dog tie off stakes that screw into the ground might be better . if you put them where you most likely have a wind load they'll hold since there made out of solid steel and heat treated to hold a 150 lb's or more i'd use those . For guy rope i'd use 1/2" or 3/8" aircraft cable and wrap 1 end twice around the tower leg but just above the stress area and use wire clamp's and do the same on the ground part . But both dog tie out's and mobile home tie down's are real good . My place has up to 8 and there in at 10ft . I'll look around and see if i can find a link to those tie out for MH's

AAAAAAAAAHHH !!! dont drill thru the tower please as suggested earlier. if you do it will snap off there ! eek. the only place mine (universal tower) is drilled thru is at the base, where there is a steel tube inside. (i only read the first page, im sure someone else cautioned you, but just to be sure). for the wood posts, (be aware the wood will rot at ground level, and with the pole being tall, there will be extra leverage to help it snap in 3-4 years. im assuming you want the poles tall so no one will trip on the wires. if you need to do it that way, i would just go with long thick screweyes with the wood screw threads on it. another way would be to use big screweyes with machine screw threads and insert them into the post and pin it through the center. 209

I got all the supplies and was going to guy it this weekend, but one of my helpers bailed, and me and BushHog were going to do it but the dang wind never let up off of 30mph+ the whole time.
Oh well, maybe we can get it done before the next big storm system comes rolling through. We got the augers in the ground though
