Use big enough gauge wire and fuses and don't hook up the wires backwards.

Will 8ga with an in-line fuse to the battery and grounding it to the firewall work well or should I do something different? What size fuse should I use?

Ground to a seat belt bolt or Steering column to firewall bolt, or seat bolt. You may need to check on the grounds to your body but thats a start.

With a non amlified radio I would sat use a 40 gauge fuse.

Thanks. Any other suggestions for the install? I would like to make sure that I do it right the first time. Also does the General Lee have a built in SWR meter?

No it doesn't. Once its superwackpacked, you can't trust the meter anyways.

The Radio Shack meter is a good one to get for just swrs and power. Its very accurate. Not THE best, but about as close as you can get for the $$
