Good catch grinder! This may change the ball game! I would focus some money on a good antenna system first now that it's known what is being used IMO. Then get a good ssb radio. Antenna system is the heart of the system and your radio will only be as good as the antenna in front of it. JMO. Good looking grinder74!!

Iknow I'm going too catch some flack here but galaxy is a great radio I bought one for the old man and I can talk too him in norryh carolina from rhode island without issue we are both barefoot . My magnum deltaforce is a great radio I've got great reports from all over wether I'm at the house using the imax or the 102 whip on my Jeep I can regurlarly reach just about anywhere from here too about new Mexico when skip isn't rolling that much when it does come in its a dx frenzy. If you can find a stryker within your price range I would Jump on it i can tell from the clarity and punch of the audio when someone has one (several guys owe me a new speaker) . The cobra 200 gtl dx is amazing there's a few on ebay for 150 $ 30watrs am 100 watts ssb also the 148 is great as well. Just my two cents

The 200gtl is a 10 meter radio so are the magnum and Stryker. So they'll need too be tuned too 11 meter but once they are.... you really won't need an amplifier. Hope this was helpful

Amazon has the Uniden 980 reconditioned from "Online Best Deals" I went ahead and ordered this radio and Amazon delivered in 5 business days. So far the radio seems great. My son in law and I tested it out against the CB I have on my Harley and it sounded GREAT, much better than the Midland 9001z I had before. I was kind of worried about getting a refurbished unit, but the radio was in perfect condition, the box looked a little worn (worried me until I opened it up) but the radio looked brand new with all the plastic wrap and screen tape still attached. Did I mention that I paid just over $120 SHIPPED.

that's a good price... be careful of the screen it scratches very easily.
