Re: Lil Wilson SWR not great, any ideas?
I ended up ditching lil will, have tram 3500 now on a Uniden pro 520 xl. Some day a SSB radio and Stryker A10.
But first need to my Comet GP3 on a permanent mast in side yard.

Reading this makes me think the antenna (Little Wil) had a problem from the get go, most likely the coax. Like I said, short antennas are only good for a couple channels then the SWR climbs rapidly. My advice is do not buy an antenna that is less than 4ft and there you even have issues toward the outsides of the band.

Hello Jbones, first if the S.W.R.is 2 or less, leave it aloe,The best mobile antennas I ever saw were 102inch whips with a kind of spring on the bottom so you wouldn't break it if you didn't have enough clearance somewhere.Regards warlock 35po.

i have noticed on alot of the offroad vehicles, using the 4' firestick mounted low, they cant talk to you when more than a 1/8 mile apart.
on other offroad vehicles using whips, the signal is strong, for miles, no matter which way the antenna is.
