Hooked up anchor today

Hooked up my montgomery ward 702 base today. talked great no problems till I turned it off. walked out of room and came back and this base was on, tried to turn it back off and no luck, finally had to unplug the thing. it has a clock in it and alarm settings. all this was turned off as well. I'm not a big fan of plug in bases, but, I have a friend that wants to trade me some other equipment for it and I wanted to make sure it was still in good working order before I traded.

any ideas?

I have seen one on ebay in the past with similar issue, it may be a common part to go bad, The timer assembly and on off may be tied together somehow, maybe dirty? or worn out.

If you get a schematic you could probably tie a switch in somewhere if parts are not available.

is there a setting for 'waking up to the cb' instead of the alarm buzzer? check that switch, and check the main power switch with a continuity tester. i had a radio where the insides of the power switch(attached to the back of the volume potentiometer) crumbled apart and the thing wouldent shut off.you could hear the insides crunching instead of clicking when you turn the power off. does the click sound normal? 209
