10kHz switch on a connex 4600 turbo
10kHz switch on a connex 4600 turbo
alright, i just bought this radio from a riend of mine. connex 4600 turbo, he has a book for it, but i wont have it till the end of next week.
my problem is that when i hit the +10 kHz switch, everything i put out to everyone else becomes static, and everything that comes in is also static. if i switch it off, everything is fine. also it only seems to work on band "d" (for whatever reason).
i am pretty new to radios and i was wondering if anyone might have an answer for this on how to set it to the max power output that the radio actually has on it ( it is peaked and tuned), and make is audible at the same time.
any help is appreciated.
thx and be safe....

leave it off.
It moves the channel to the "Alpha" channels that are between several channels. The "A" channels are typically used by remote control cars, boats, planes....etc.
The only time I ever use the 10kz switch on my General Lee (Connex 3300hp) is when this bratty little kid down the street gets his gas powered RC car out on the weekend.....at 7AM!! I can key up and kill his ability to control it. He has NO IDEA that I am doing it. After a few minutes he gets **Censored** and goes back inside....HAHHAHAHAHA
there are several threads regarding this, do a search....you'll be able to find a list of the channels that the 10kz works with (IIRC it's 3,7,11,19)

yea i just looked up what the 10kHz switch does. for some reason i thought it set it at a higher watt output.... (stupid me)
OK so my next question is. i have 6 different band settings, i dont know how familiar you are with this, but i am trying to get the whole 250+ watts out of the radio. do these have anything to do with it? also band "D" seems to be the only band that works. i had a buddy sitting next to me and i went through all the bands and D was the only one he could hear me clearly on.
so basically, how do i get the most of what i already have, settings an all?

"D" band is your straight 40 channels of 11mtr cb freqs. 'E' band is you extra upper channels. ill have to look but i think if i got to channel 1 band d and hit the 10k bump it will take me to band e channel 1 wich is 41. even tho you are on other freqs at that close of a distance you should be bleeding the hell out of your buddies. when im at dads i can sit in his driveway in my suburban and key my little jackson 4 watts swinging 45 on a bird and i can bleed a guy 250yrds away on a base on all bands all channels. you radio should be putting out over 200watts. i dont see why you arent giving your buddies any spaltter......jas

the different A-B-C-D-E and so on, are different bands of channels in 40 channel increments. "D" band is CB channels, that's why you don't hear anything except for on that band. Some of the other channels are considered "freeband" and the higher bands are actually 10 meter ham bands. The bands of channels have nothing to do with output power. And realistically speaking, you're prolly not going to see 250 watts unless you run an amp with it. To my understanding, that radio is not designed for that kind of power by itself. (Still a great radio though!) Read the manual to see what all the knobs do. About the best way to set everything would be to have the rf gain all the way clockwise, mic gain as far over as you can until people tell you to turn it back down (most likely from 12:00-3:00 on the knob), try the rf power open to about 12:00 at first until you need to talk some distance (this just keeps things cool until you really need the power boost), echo - set to taste, use talk back button to hear yourself until you have it set just right (might have to turn mic gain down so it doesn't squeal during talkback), use the noise blanker only when you need it. This is just a basic way to set the knobs until you figure everything out yourself. I don't want you to think this is the way it always needs to be, just think of it as a "default" setting on your computer. Hope this helps a little.
