I just picked one of these T-240-D radios up in decent condition with a black base D 104 mic for 100 bucks. Thought this was a pretty good deal. I have been looking for a tube set for quite some time now but didn't want to pay 150 for the radio and a ridiculous 35 bucks for shipping from an eBay auctioneer.

Question is this. I don't want extra channels as I don't use them on AM but I would like to bring the mod up and possibly RF out a bit more. I have never owned one before but I have heard of them being awesome rigs. Any suggestions?

Thanks, Mike

For more power out jump resistors R905 and R906 put a 6.8k
1/2 watt resistor in parallel with R904 adjust you PI- Network VC901
and 902 for maximun output. VR-4 is your Modulation Adjust.

They aren't high output radios. The audio is the key...but it's
more about quality than quantity. You can get more power
out by jumping resistors...but it will shorten tube life. I used
to get 20 watts dead key and 100pep out of my Tram 201...
back in the days of cheap 6l6's. :D

What can one reasonably see out of one of these units without damage or shortening the life? All I would need is about 4 on the DK and 10-15 on the peaks. This will make the amp kick on.

It might shorten the tube life a little bit. But it's only going to raise
the voltage about 35 to 50 volts those resistors where put in
to keep your wattage input at five watts. It uses a 6BQ7 final 12 watts plate dissipation.
Or you could just tune the Plate and Load VC901 and VC902 that should give you
a little more output that radio uses a PI-Network to match impedance
of the radio to the antenna and adjust VR-4 for your Modulation.
