I blame YOU GUYS!!!
Folks:
I got into CB's as a hobby back in the late 90s. And I had a base station, linears, big antennas, extra channels, meters, blah blah blah. I was hooked and bought everything i could get my hands on. A few years later I sold everything and got out of it.
Fast Forward to 2 weeks ago. I decided to get back into CB's, but just the bare minimum. I was just gonna get a little barefoot radio on a Lil Wil antenna to talk to truckers and what-not. Well, then I found this site....and the obsession ensued!!! Reading all these comments on here has refueled the passion! I need a big radio! I need big wattage! I need to communicate with the space station again! LOL!!!
Just wanted to let yall know that your excitement with CB'ing is contagious.

Hi everyone........my name is Mike and,,,,,,,,,,,I'm a CB-a-holic. I have tried to quit many times but to no avail. I just can't seem to kicker...I mean kick the habit. It's all I think about. I know, you have all been there but it is especially hard for me. You know how it is, you start with the small stuff and then it leads to stronger ones. But I am really glad I found this support group and I feel I have a long hard road ahead but I am hooked. I started doing 3 watts a day and now I am up to 600 to 1000 per day.........every time I key up!!!!!!!!!! Woe is me.
Thank you for listening to my story.

Thanks for sharing Causmik. I have the same symptoms as you, so I should make a confession here also. I have Sparky's telephone number in my cell phone saved numbers list. So if ya try to call Al around 1:30 pm CST on Thursdays and his number is busy.. that's not Al's fault it's mine.causmik wrote:Hi everyone........my name is Mike and,,,,,,,,,,,I'm a CB-a-holic. I got back into the hobby a year ago, with a ts500 and a sweet 16, pretty much where I left off when I left the hobby the last time. I tend to get out of the hobby at the end of the cycle and get back in when it picks up. I always know I'll want new junk the next time, so I sell it off. The only difference is that this go-round, the sweet 16 is about to be a driver, I'll be running twice the batteries, an extra alternator, directional arrays, and have more wrapped up in a mobile than ever before. I always ran around in the 500 to 1000 range, at least since 87 or so, but now that's just driver material unless you plan to talk limited skip or want to hide on the freeband and not tangle with the real am operators. You can get your name called all day with a 2 pill on an odd channel or on sideband, but on the regular 40 it will be FIERCE, have no doubt. -drdx

It is crazy. I'm a little older now, so I'm not doing the "selling off" deal. I'm filling my closet and have a decent start at a collection of stuff that will keep me busy. I will sell off odds and ends, but some of it is just too nice to get rid of in fear of not getting another one like it that isn't hacked up. You can spend a fortune on it, but all in all it is a cheap hobby in that once you own it, it is cheap to operate as long as you take care of it. Yeah, way back in 87 or so I had a herd of dx500's, and dealt in a lot of Tx star amps to where I was always selling the one I had and having one or 2 on the way. Back then a 4 pill made you a local celebrity and a dx1200 made you a feared signal. On the money deal though, I did form a small business with the state with my mag mounts and parts, and write off all of the gear as test gear, so after the write-off, I come out good and the stuff ends up costing only about 2/3 of what I pay for it after the tax benefit. I just have to track it all, no big deal. My cpa is a neat freak and very cautious. I report it all- sales, expenses, mileage to pick it up, mileage to the local ham fest for a fleamarket table, test gear, batteries, alternator, etc. Soon the vehicle it is all in will be dedicated to the cause, so it will be a full write-off deal too. It works out pretty good, and makes me feel less guilty when I'm spending money on the next piece of gear. In this case, I've got big amp fever, so off I go. Will it be a 16 or a 32 for the car?? Ameritron or Alpha for the house??? Time will tell. -drdx
