Alright well for Christmas i got this little mobile cobra CB radio, and I installed it onto my
sport motorcycle along with a little PA speaker and it was fun, i did a lot of messing around with the PA.
but I couldnt find a could system of being able to communicate while riding, they have helmet kits for
handset CB radios but not for actual car mobile styles. I decided that I would like to make a small base set up.
So basically I am just wondering if there is something I can buy to be able to plug my CB into a wall socket
or some sort of battery operation, although I dont want to be changing batteries every few hours. Does anyone have some
suggestions on what I can do.
Also right now I have a small..probably 1-2 foot antenna on my bike, what kind of range can I get with that? will it be better
on top of a house, is there something home made I can put on top of the house..or any suggestions on a good home antenna, I want to be able to get as far out as I can
Mobile to Base
Re: Mobile to Base
Certainly! I have ran a mobile as a base radio for years. All you need is a power supply. If it's a stock radio, then maybe a 5 amp power supply. If you plan on upgrading to an export in the future, I'd shoot for a 20-25 amp power supply. I have a little Pyramid 25a power supply that I picked up used for $50. Astron also makes good power supplies. Check out some of these links from our sponsors:BlueStation20 wrote:So basically I am just wondering if there is something I can buy to be able to plug my CB into a wall socket

I'm sure that almost all the sponsors sell power supplies. Putting a mobile in the shack is nothing new. It saves space, and is cheaper a lot of times.
As far as your antenna, it's not going to work good as a base...sorry. You need something taller. The taller the antenna the better. If you want to get out cheap, get a Antron 99. They're 18 ft tall, and work great for little basic base station antennas. If you don't mind taller, get a Imax 2000.
Good luck. If you have more questions, just ask!
