Motorola Motrac

#130818

Post by Pocono Redneck »

A friend of mine (a retired Police chief) died a while back and his wife gave me a couple boxes of old Police radios including a huge Motorola Motrac unit that weighs a ton. I found that inside it is what appears to be a two stage tube amplifier---the smaller tube is labeled 8552 and the larger one is an 8643.

I found that the 8552 is apparently a 100 watt tube but I can't seem to find out what the larger 8643 is rated...

Anyone here know anything about these units or specifically these tubes?

TIA for any assistance.

The 8643 is a dual vhf tetrode similar to the 5894 with 600 volts
on the plate you get about 80 watts out in class c. The 8552 is the
same as a 6146 the same vhf ratings apply. By the way a Motrac makes
a very nice 2mtr repeater.
