help/suggestions

i am thinking of putting in a base unit here at the homestead. i know nothing about base stations the other night i read through this base section, and read some pretty good ideas, but i think i have some of my own. i will list my ideas, and will also be open to suggestions.

i currently rent a trailer on its own land/ lot(not in a park). i have a tree out front, and a couple of tin/aluminum porch overhangs. it is also on a block foundation. i pretty sure i have a peaked roof, not so much a flat roof, and it is shingled i think.

i would like to find an older uniden/president, or teaberry, or robyn for my radio. i'm not sure if i want ssb or not i have never used it, and don't really understand it. i have an older palomar style 2x1446 pill mobile unit to use with it, i know i will need a power supply. then i was thinking of maybe buying a 102" for an antenna. i'm not real sure how i could get the 102 mounted to the roof though. i'm thinking that with what i have read my trailer frame would make for a great ground plane.

i think i have the makings for what would be a great lil set- up i just need some guidance on how to perfect it. i'm thinking i might need some pvc pipe some hose clamps, and some crafty engerineering to make this all work.

WELCOME
First I would suggest a ssb/am unit, if you want to talk skip since the skip season will be starting in a few months ssb will get you out further than am.
On your amp, just remember that to drive an amp you will have to get a radio which can be turned down to 1 or 2 watts to drive the amp or you will overdrive it and it will burn up<burn up the pills>

Yes you will need a power supply, I would suggest 25 amp or more to run the amp, or more.
No don't use the 102 inch whip , they were made for mobile use and for a base just dont do the job.
If you want to put it up<antenna>, to start with get a push up pole if available if not drive a fence post into the ground, get 2 u bolts <hardware>, and 3 mast sections at a local hardware or rat shack and bolt them against the fence post.
Antenna thats up to you but no whip , the talk distance is short and not a lot of fun.
You can pick up a astro plane under fifty and reach ot 40-50 miles nightly on the channels with a set up like your talking about.

Just my few cents worth
