info on beams

i'm lookin into getten 6 element beam. need opinions on witch will work best for local range.maco,gizmo,jogun,signal eng. i have hygain stack 3 now just want little more punch.any input would be very helpful from anyone thank you

I like signal engineering and maco. Signal engineering has great customer support. I think a SE and Maco will probably give you the same results.

I am not a fan of Gizmotchy antennas....they are very hard to tune. I am very skeptical of Jo-Gunns antenna gains, and would be weary of paying that much for a beam.

You may be able to find an old Moonraker 6 as well which is an outstanding antenna.

I would send Maco and SE a e-mail, and whoever gets back quicker, buy from them. Customer service is nice with a big purchase like this.

thats the way i was thinkin.i used to have mr 6 10 years ago it was sweet but never had it high enough jogun has crazy claims but you never know. just lookin for as much info as possible before spending tons of money

I have a joegunn 4 plus 4 shooting star it works most of the time i talk ship just on radio 2995 rci I had a maco comet that work just ok

If your only worried about local, then just make your own six element yagi and mount it vertically! You must already have a gamma match. All you really need is a few more elements and a longer boom. You can use a Maco design for reference!

Seems like a very small step up going from a stacked 3 to a straight 6 (to me anyway). If you considered dual polarity though, it'd be a nice improvement IMO. SE quad would be a very effective way to go and my personal favorite and first choice, then the Laser400 or 500 if you have the room, rotor, and support structure to handle them.

If you already have a stacked 3 and need more punch? Sounds like you need more power. Get an amp!

I was thinkin quad. guess I could make my own out of the 3's. whats the gain diff between 3' and laser 400?

Well actually your stacked 3 beams have very good gain as they are . The difference between a 6 element and your stacked 3's well is not enough difference for the added cost.
Now another thing to consider would getting an antenna that does both horizontal and vertical polarity . Perhaps a Shooting Star which is equivalent to a Moonraker 4 might be an alternative. If your looking for longer boom and highest gain I go without hesitation to the 6 element Cubical Quad that Signal Engineering makes.It will do you a magnificent job


Finding a Moonraker 6 would be nice as well
