I was quoted $200 to install a PUCK ??
I called a local CB shop in town. They quoted me $200 to install a PUCK into the roof of my SUV and Hardwire my CB under the dashboard.
I realize that cutting a whole in the roof is risky -- thus I want it done right. This is the only shop I called to far.
1) Are they over-charging? (I think so)
2) How much do think it should really cost?
Thanks.

Does that include the parts needed?
I think I would think about letting someone do it for $200 if that included the puck and coax. It would be worth it to may for me due to time constraints.
It'd take someone that I would need references for to drill a hole in my roof....
RF Power has Pucks for $44. Plus coax, plus a $10 hole saw bit. Just depends on what your time is worth.

I already bought the CB, PUCK, ANTENNA, & COAX. The $200 is for Installation only (I provide the materials).Approach wrote:I called a local CB shop in town. They quoted me $200 to install a PUCK into the roof of my SUV and Hardwire my CB under the dashboard.

Talk to Ole-3-Toe, he did one and could tell you how hard it is to do. But $200 for an install is crazy in my mind!

Wow - 500 installs. That's a lot of experience. Have you installed PUCKS before? Maybe I should take a ride over to Kentucky and as YOU to install my Puck...hobbz wrote:I would usually install the radio/antenna for my customers at my last job for $25 labor plus parts. I bet I have drilled holes in 500 brand new vehicles and never thought twice about it.

$200? Seems a bit high, but I know that prices due vary depending on where you live. I'd call a few more shops to get a comparison - that may be the going rate in your area. Maybe call a few stereo installation shops as well. They should be able to install a puck mount (if they choose to) and do just as good of a job (or better) then the guy behind the counter at the local CB shop.Approach wrote:I realize that cutting a whole in the roof is risky -- thus I want it done right. Well, $200 isn't too bad. It depends on the type of SUV. I do suburbans all the time, the newer models are a biach and it takes two people to install the coax, puck, antennas, and grounds about 2 to 3 hours. We charge $25 per hour. its not that easy to just snatch out a head liner and install everything and put it back together. then you say install a radio too. Its about a good 4 hour job.

I agree $200 sounds a bit High...But have you taken your car to a repair shop lately? Most wont even take out a spark plug for less than $50...
Call a electrician out to fix a loose wire in your AC unit, and be ready for a $100 bill! Labor is just ridiculously high right now to have anyone do anything anymore...
What I would do, is just take your time, and see if you can't either do it yourself, or find a good Friend that has done it before to help...Maybe furnish the Beer & BBQ!
When you start getting into taking down headliners, and running coax all over the place, you can easily eat-up a whole day of your time...

Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.
