Portable Base Setup

#168875

Post by 2J-FJ »

Here's my portable base setup, which I just finished. I got tired of having everything scattered, so I put it all in an ammo can and made it easy to take outside and with me anywhere. Soon, a battery tray will go under the radio and allow for fully unplugged operation. I'll also post some pictures of my PVC mast which all comes apart and goes in a small duffel bag to accompany it.
What do you think? :D

Now THAT is some neat stuff right there!! So you can just hike to the top of the tallest mountain around, plop down your ammo can, set up your antenna, string some coax, and lock down the town!? That's just cool right there, I don't care who ya are......... 8)

Thanks! Glad you like it.

That's exactly the idea. Fully portable, locked and loaded, ready to roll with a little bit of help from some bells and whistles mounted in the blank drill holes in the rails.

AWWWW Heck now you gone and done it.You just gave me another project idea  I have been thinking for years about putting a setup together in a wagon to take fishing. Was thinking about a deep cycle battery, radio and maybe a small 2 pill amp like the Fatboy Trucker. That ammo can is a killer idea,it would keep things dry if it were to suddenly rain or something.I like it man nice job, great creativity.Shawn

Thanks all! :D

The next stop at some point will be these batteries, which I'll use two of [Please login or register to view this link] in there. Also, I'm going to add some LED lighting (red and white) inside which has a separate set of alkaline batteries and switch, independent of the main supply for the radio gear. That way, no fumbling for the stuff in the dark and the ability to troubleshoot in the dark in case the main batteries are dead.

Oh and one other thing: my home-made "on air" light goes somewhere in there too...

Now that's what I'm talking about!

I can't have any antennas up either, so it helps to have the rig ultra portable.

Very neat! 8) Put some rubber grommets around the bolt holes you drilled on the side and you'll be able to submerge the entire unit in a lake and hide it...if you ever had to...for some odd reason! But seriously, it's quite ingenious. I like it!

If you look close, you'll see them on every bolt that goes through it. Double duty, both isolation and water resistance... :D

2J-FJ hey that's neat as hell man!!I have been looking in to building my lunch box into my portable CB.
I work 12hr shifts some my lunch box is huge any way.I just might upgrade to a bigger box to put a CB in it.
I drive a fuel truck and don't want to leave it in the truck every time i leave. But the antenna thing is stopping me.
Just hate to have to pack around a antenna. But that sure is a cool idea and i have a can just like it.
Just might copy cat you to make a nice fishin rig like outlawmobile!!!!Nice job!!!

I agree, nice setup. Could hook up a little portable generator to power that 16 pill box too!
