Scanner wont tune to CB freq's

#172940

Post by downhill3r »

Okay so I have a pretty fair scanner at my house and was trying to tune to any cb radio frequency but every time I punch in the frequency it comes up with error. This occurs on my friends scanner as well and its a completely different brand and everything. Does anyone know why this happens.

Correct. Scanners do not operate within the CB bands. I have never seen one that does, but that doesn't mean there aren't any.

Hello, I can only assume that your scanner is not programmed to read those frequencies. My Pro 96 does accept the CB frequencies, but the antenna is so inadequate that I really don't hear anything, unless the CB signal is extremely strong like right outside my door, the antenna is really made for much higher frequencies.

That makes sense but the funny thing is that my friends scanner can tune to cb frequeny's but when you try to manually enter the frequency it wont let it go to it.

I tried to get cb freq on my scanner also to no avail. I did get 2 meter on there though. lots of interesting stuff sometimes.

What is the freq. for 2 meter?

I have a scanner that does:

10 meter ham
low band
6 meter ham
military
2 meter ham
high band
Federal Gov.
UHF band
"T" band

But there are no reprogrammed freq. in it.
Have to manually input freq.

2 meters is 144-148, and you'll hear most in the 146-148 range where the repeaters are. The uniden BCT8 recieves cb stuff and some of the higher end scanners do as well, but the antenna is important. For a cheap cb receiving scanner, the BCT7 is getting older but is a good unit and can be had cheap. -drdx
