Horizontal Omni Directional
Well today after cutting down a tree and a few tree branches I decided it was time to play .Up to the top of the hill I went to the scrap aluminum pile and found my old 30 yr old antenna
I then began playing with my old friend HY Gain Big Gun II that has been laying up on the hill. I decided to but the Driven Element together to play. 30 Year old coax ...Here it is at 5 ft off the ground no less. With 1 watt Alabama station heard me while I was testing swrs Go Figure !!

I hope it works good at 60 ft because we plan on mounting it to the top of the new tower going up for Horizontal Polarity omni directional . Talk about being at the legal height of 60 ft ....

Ok Pony, just a couple of questions. Why does the lowest antenna look like a moxon homebrew?!? To the left...it looks like I see a groundplane with horizontal elements on the radials??? Yea dx was good last night...talked to texas and byu with a barefoot galaxy 949. I couldn't hold a long qso though...just long enough to say hi and bye. If you really wanna try a homebrew that works...try a basic horizontal dipole with copper pipe. Just make sure to spray it with a clear coat paint. The pattern is bi-directional like a figure 8. Then again...this might have been a big joke?!?

I am pretty new to building antennas please tell me How do I make this Dipole Antenna and does clear coat painting it give it better performance than this MOXON HOMEBREW antenna ? Will the dipole out perform my square loop?

Oh your ? Its a 30 year old antenna that the copper wire hasn't been straighten I put it together in 3 minutes . Antenna sagging because it is designed to be vertical and not horizontal . yes the 5/8 wave penatrator 500 was dominated by this silly looking loop at 5 ft .Loop was S7 the Vertical was S2 with 1 watt into ALABAMA with others calling ...

Yea Pony, I tried the moxon too but couldn't find a decent spreader to hold the wire. For my application, the homemade dipole on the flat side had decent performance. It's light and has a wider bi-directional pattern...wider than a beam. I could do more 'side-skippin' while heavyweights were on the maul. Just sumething else to try...but if the moxon work, thats all good. The moxon is basically a two element beam with slightly lower gain than a full size yagi.

Yeap its a cheap 2 element wire beam folded on the corners with a shorter turning radius . I helped 8 boy scouts who was in my novice class we was giving make some 10-12 years back out of 1/2 copper tubing ..We used some 1/2 inch thick Phenolic to attach the elements to the 1 1/2 boom with u bolts .Heck 1 even became a plumber I wonder if him learning how to properly solder 90 deg elbows to that tubing . That was a fun day and yes they all passed their test .Then they discovered girls Imagine that !!highdrive wrote:Yea Pony, I tried the moxon too but couldn't find a decent spreader to hold the wire.
