? about my beam

Post by Ricky »

Today me and my friend just put the beam higher up over the rotor. it used to be about a foot from the rotor. but now i took it down, and welded about another 1.5 to 2 feet to the pipe. it is gas pipe. now my question, how will the rotor do holding that in normal and heavy winds? i have second thoughts, because when i climbed up it, it shook. opinions and advice would make me less nervous. thanks

it is not about horiz pressure with the pipe.......it makes more vertical........on this i'd be more worried about those small pieces of all thread in the rotor body it's self. it isn't designed for allot of weight

now....that is a tv type rotor....no mechanical brake....it only relays on gear and motor....any high wind with that size beam will turn it.

ok, so the u-bolts will break, before the rotor would break.

had the very same set up almost exact i mean............. yrs ago depending on how much wind but on mine it RIP the guts out of the rotary but it lasted almost a yr and a half using a rotary with a break is a better deal i recommend the ham 4 but as i stated it did last a good while with a lot of activity ........lol good luck .............................stagecoach

At least "flat" you have way less wind load than if it was "vert" just keep your fingers crossed. Maybe drop the rotor down into the tower on a plate, add a bearing on the top, those parts can be pricey but that's why it is CB. (constantly buying)

windload works on surface area sq/ft ......... not ''flat'' or ''vert''

as to the breaking question.........yes....the weakest points [besides no brake] is the housing and simple all thread screwed into them...to hold the mast clamp

i've seen winds less than 25mph brake these

a rotor as small as a ham 2 will be enough for these and a little bigger....even though it also has no solenoid brake.......it is bigger in windload and construction

but......that is not to say this won't work for you for a given time....just keep check on it visually

Yagi style antennas catch a lot more wind load when turned vertically rather than horizontally, plus you have to extend the mast out of the tower more. Either way as said before keep an eye on it.
