DC to AC Converters

What would be a good converter to use when I wanna use my radio in my home? Its the same radio and antenna I use for my mobile. Ive got a cigg lighter adapter on it, which is why I wanna use it in both my home, and car. Makes the portability aspect up a couple of notches if u know what I mean. So what would be good to use?

Well, since the radio is 12v DC, the best thing to do is to get an actual power supply. Pyramid and Astron are 2 great brands. If it's a stock radio, then something like a little 5 amp would be perfect for your needs.

As far as antenna, I'd get a full base antenna, or you won't be happy with performance. Running a mobile antenna on base is not a good idea, as your receive and transmit will both suffer. You can pick up something cheap like an Antron 99 for $60 or so, or get a good antenna like a Imax 2000 for $80. I'd recommend good quality RG-213U or better coax on the base setup to keep from bleeding over on TV's and causing excessive RFI.

It definitely would be called a "DC Power Supply". Although you may not need a large one----the more amps, the better. Often you may find one used, in good condition at a flea-market or yardsale at literally a fraction of the cost of a new one. I've bought large ones (used) that had high amperage ratings and paid for it what it would cost for a tiny new one at Radio Shack. Just a thought.
