Need a radio mounting solution.

So I'm re-working my entire rig right now.

Basically I just want to do a roof mount for my radio and I was wondering if anyone else has done this and how they did it.
It looks like the easiest way might just be to drill pilot holes through the upholstery and roof of the vehicle and then get rubber washers to waterproof it.

Any suggestions?

what kind of vehicle? Most vehicles have a double wall. There are a lot of vendors that offer consoles etc to accomodate a wide variety of vehicles. Good luck. Someone here will have dealt with this before and have a specific answer.

It's a 2000 Ram, right now I have it on my dash with velcro mounting tape.

I recently just refinished the interior of the truck and the radio just looks nappy now.

My idea was to mount it to the roof, get wire insulator (The plastic tubing) to pizazz it up a little, drill a hole in my dash and run the wire through and then distribute as needed, I just don't know the best way to go about this.

I have a 2004 Ram 4x4 and used a saw tooth hump mount. have had everything from a General Lee, 158EDX, and a 939 riding there for the last year. Puts everything at the correct angle for viewing and it does not move. Easy to change out with another radio (maybe two minutes) and I think our sponsors have them for sale for around eight bucks. All my wiring runs behind the dash and I pull it out at the hump. Hope that helps some. Simple efficient effective.

Yeah the hump mounts are nice but on my dodge, the cup holder is right above the hump... I spill stuff more often than not, and that scares me a little.

In my 05 Dodge 1500 Quad Cab I use the Bubba Bracket made by Victory, Got it from the guys at CB City. I have two, one for Cobra 29 size radio's and one for DX size chassis. It not on their website so you would have to call them to order. They were like $11.00 each.
