Does this sound right? My setup is in this order.Radio, amp, meter and antenna. With the amp on I'm getting a SWR reading of 1.75 on channel 1 and 2.25 on channel 40.Is this acceptable?I was thinking it should be lower. With the amp off the the SWR needle doesn't move...it just kinda sets there and wiggles.Do i need to change something?
Sounds to me like your antenna needs to made a bit shorter...but not sure of your antenna type/brand and location. That plays a huge part in the overall scheme of things IMO. Your items are correct though. Radio > Amp > Meter > Antenna
I typically pull the amp out of line and tune the antenna for minimum SWR throughout the frequencies I intend to run/use it with. With that done, I then install the amp again and check things again. Most of the antennas I use are still under 1.5:1 easily across the channels I'm running the most...which is my personal preferrence.

With the amp out of line i get great numbers. The meter needle sets on 1:1 Its when i hook the amp back up that i get the higher numbers. :06-272:231 wrote:Sounds to me like your antenna needs to made a bit shorter...but not sure of your antenna type/brand and location.
