SB-221 3 tube?
What would be involved in putting a third tube into a sb-221. So far I figure 1 more socket, A 1.5 amp 1000-1600 volt transformer, tube and a little work. Am I on the right path?

If you are skilled enough to modify this amp, get yourself a 3CX15000 and build a real amplifier.......
Not worth your time to attempt adding a third tube. The combiner alone will be a nightmare (combiners are normally balanced). It can be done, but it is simpler to build a single tube amp and use the SB-221 as a driver.

Also make sure you have enough filament current for a third tube. I think the filament choke should be ok. If not rewind it with #12 wire I think heathkit's using #14 I haven't looked inside of mine for a while. Also make sure the plate choke can handle the extra current draw and the rectifiers. Then you should be in bussiness.
