counterpoise for hf verticle ground mount

I am planning to purchase one of these in next couple weeks. gonna get the hustler 10-80 meter one. ground counterpoise is not required but they say it will help it. I want to mount it to my porch rail and run the counter poise under the porch and staple it to the bottom so its not an eye sore or in the way and off the end of the porch is woods that I can stretch the other half of the wires into. Will it hurt the performance going under the porch like that? I wouldnt think so since wood is not electrical and is invisible to the antenna or should be but figured I would ask.
