mobile in 2000 Chevy
anyone put a mobile in their 2000 chevy pick up? Where did you come in with the coax? I looked all over for a place to get in to the cab with out drilling a hole. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Right now I have the coax going along the door but it's going to pinch and ruin it. Thanks again.. littlered

Do you have a third brake light above the rear window? I have a Ford pickup and notched out the plastic housing on the light and ran it through. A little RTV sealant and your good to go.littlered wrote:anyone put a mobile in their 2000 chevy pick up? Where did you come in with the coax? I did the exact same thing in my Ford. Looks and works great!

I just drilled a hole to come up thru the floor bahind the back set. I just a rubber gromet to insulate the holes. Here's a pic of it in my 96 Chevy Silverado.

There are several ways depending on where the antenna is located. If it's on the roof of the cab, do yourself a favor and just drill the hole to hard mount the antenna. Contrary to popular belief, that hole does not devalue the truck, and a 'hard mounted' antenna always works better than a mag-mount.
There are a few 'holes' already there on almost every vehicle. Probably the most common place to find those holes is in the floor boards. Look under that carpet, bet you'll find at least two. Or, put a hole where ever you want one, just seal it later.
I've got one antenna on a front fender. 'Noodled' the coax down to the door jam, ran it through the cable thingy (boot?) between the door and cab body. Can't say it was the easiest thing in the world to do, but it's working just fine so far.
Good luck.

Thanks alot guys for the ideas. I'll give them a try when the weather gets better here. It's been snowing and blowing, not going to work out in that stuff. I put a mobile in a '98 chevy but it was a 2 wheel drive, but there was a big rubber gromet where the cable for the gear shift comes through the floor I just put a small slit in the boot and ran it up through the floor. Worked great and never leaked. But my 4wd doesn't have that gromet. Even where the transfer case shifter is, there's not a spot to come through the floor. Thanks again guys for the ideas.

I have ran a coax through a 1994 and a 2009 GMC and in both models there are punch outs in the floorboard. They are about an inch in diameter and you can take a hammer and flat head screw driver to punch it out from the bottom up. If you just look under the truck, you can see them because they do not match the texture of the rest of the floor. They are jagged around the edges. I used what I have always known as elephant hide to seal up the whole. It is a real thick puddy that I just molded and it keeps the coax off the metal and keeps the water out. Being a chevy, it should have these punch outs. I would do this if you are not mounting to the roof. It you are mounting to the roof, I would recommend hard mounting like stated above.littlered wrote:Thanks alot guys for the ideas. I'll give them a try when the weather gets better here. I made a bracket and mounted it on the trans tunnel. It's not the ideal place but like you say there isn't really a place to put them! I'll get some pics up when I get it all wrapped up.

I have a 99 Ford F150 and was able to mount mine just under the heater controls on the dash. Drilled a couple of holes for the bracket and used #14 Stainless Steel Srews to nail it down. Works well for me and is within easy reach.
