Restoring the exterior of tube rigs

#239057

Post by sandy7 »

I picked up two Lafayette COMSTAT 35's. After replacing some tubes and all the electrolytic capacitors I've gotten good signal reports for both rigs. I want to spruce up the well worn exterior. One rig needs new grill cloth, some of the flat black panel paint is worn, and the word "volume" over the control is worn. The other rig needs a total repaint of the outer clam shell metal case. Are there any web sites on restoring these old rigs? I see alot of info on old wood cabinet AM broadcast radios but nothing on CB's. Has anyone tried replacing the meter or channel back lighting with white LED's ?

I was heavily into CB in the mid 1970's.
Thought it would be neat to restore a tube set from those days to have on my desk.

Thanks...
