Weird dead key problem

#239866

Post by backwoods »

Got a DX2517 today and hooked it up. Problem is the dead key was at 3 watts, my other radio I was driving my box with was dead keying 1 on low and 2.5 on high. Turned the dead key down on the 2517 and hooked it up. I had to turn the dead key on the 2517 up to 6 watts to get the same dead key on my amp as I did with 1 watt on the other. What gives? Maybe harmonics causing a high dead key before? I always thought my dead key was a little high before so maybe I solved a problem. The old radio was a General Lee and talks great!

Different radios react differently to the input circuits of amps. Not many amps actually have a true 50 ohm input impedance.
