Hobbieville is One Great Guy THANK YOU
HOBBIEVILLE
I just wanted to post a public thank you to our one CBRT Member "hobbieville". A sincere thank you to him. To say why is simply the man had read a post I made discussing the availability (or lack of!) rack mount handles for the large Galaxy RCI series of base radios. I've looked on & off over the last year and a half and have not found them for sale yet while looking around online. Not to say they're not out there somewhere, but I haven't seen them.
Anyway, I had bought my Galaxy Saturn Turbo about 2 years ago from a deceased local operator's brother, and aside from the Saturn needing expensive repairs (which I wasn't told about)----it was missing one lone rack handle. Not the biggest thing in the world, but at the same time in the back of my mind it bothered me, felt like the radio was incomplete. And because I will be adding real server rack cabinets to my home station in the next year or so, they are a definite part of the plan and the handles not just for decoration, and having the heavy radio actually rack mountable, will be GREAT. I've currently got just enough rack mount equipment to completely fill one 6-foot server cabinet, and I look forward to it.
So, hobbieville, out of sheer kindness, took my information and nicely packaged one RCI Galaxy rack handle and sent it to me. It was nicely packaged and labeled and he sent it almost immediately. It arrived only a couple of days later and I was delighted to unwrap it and place it with the other on the radio. I will certainly mention that he did this without reimbursement or charge, something unheard of in my experience, for which I am amazed and doubly grateful.
So both handles are reunited with the 'ol Galaxy Saturn. Oop, I didn't have the large screws for the handles to attach! But no big deal I'll take the ones from the Galaxy 2517 here and take them with me to FASTENAL, or another store with a large selection of fasteners, and get a set that match (and some extras!). I already need to get some really oddball tiny machine screws and other items, so I'll combine the trip and keep my fingers crossed that they're not something exotic. But the handle itself----I'm very grateful to hobbieville for demonstrating kindness in person and a spirit of helping. Another thing to be really thankful for around Thanksgiving.
