102" ss Whip on my mobile Home

I am setting up a base for the first time at my new place. I live in a large, 3 bedroom 2 bath mobile home. I am wanting to set up a 102" SS Whip connected to the side of my mobile home. What connector would i use, do I need any extra grounding and should I use a ground plane kit. Any help with this would be great. I'm wanting to shoot some skip on ssb. The radio I am going to hook it to is going to be a Magnum 257 (blue screen), expanded, aligned & tuned from non-sponsor. And before anybody says anything lol, I do plan on getting my Ham license before transmitting on any 10 meter frequencies . Thanks

Welcome to the forum.

You can hook it up just like you would a mobile...which I'd expect you can count on pretty close to the same results as a mobile with. You'd be much better off (performance wise) to just invest in a regular base station antenna like an A99 or Imax2000. The difference in performance is quite significant...especially for DX. If you insist on using a 1/4 wave whip, the closer to the center of the roof the better for the most omni directional use.

And there are many hams here. Many of us just love the hobby and really don't care whether it's CB or ham...so I doubt you'll get too many hassles here. But I'd reconsider using that Magnum on 10m. Many of the old timers on the air will likely flame you some for using an "FCC non-accepted type" transceiver on 10m. So be prepared. Other than that kick back and enjoy the forum.

It ought'a work at least as well as any other mobile using the same antenna. I think '231' has a point though, mounting it toward the center of the mobile home will result in a more symmetrical radiation pattern, which wouldn't be bad. I'm also assuming the roof would be metal??

I have done this before....mount the antenna with half of the mirror mount it comes with to the metal trim at the roof line of your moble home.....do not use a pipe or pole to raise the antenna or your SWR's will go to hell ! I did not use any ground wires at all........this setup will work I still have it as a backup for big storms....I live in south Florida....lol...... P.s. Do not remove the spring at base of antenna.

it would run just like a mobile.
I would suggest running a imax2000 for better performance.
tripod you can pick up at fleet farm or radioshack along with the mast.
