Newbie needin a little amp help
Newbie needin a little amp help
I'm currently running a barefoot Uniden 68xl, with a Wilson 1000. I've kinda been bitten by the power bug, and will be picking up a Texas Star DX399.
What kind of work....HYPOTHETICALLY.... is involved in converting this amp to operate on 11 meter.....NOT that I would actually do something like that. I would just like to know incase the FCC ever changes things.

1. Unsolder the wire (black) from the small key jack on the rear panel.
2. Locate the two standing capacitors (15pf and 33pf) near the relay and RF choke. Unsolder and remove the (green) wire from the tops of the capacitors. Separate and remove the 33pf capacitor leaving the 15pf (C1) in place. Resolder the standing end of the 15pf capacitor to the adjacent pad on the board. This pad also connects to a wire from the rear panel S0239 connector (Radio).
3. Remove the wire (Red) of the oscillator board from the RF choke (L1) behind the relay.
4. Remove the yellow .1 100v cap of the oscillator board from the main PCB.
5. Remove the oscillator board.
6. Locate the large orange .01 1KV cap (C25) attached to the trace behind the PWR switch. Unsolder the ground end (closest to the relay). Solder the removed lead to the open trace behind the VAR switch.

JUST A SUGGESTION BUT THERE IS A 400 WATT AMP FOR SALE IN AREA AMPLIFIER MOBILE/BASE FOR SALE!!!! YOU MAY WANT TO CHECK IT OUT!!!
STICKMAN
I have a slightly different question on the same topic. I am going to be looking at buying an amp down the road. I have an old President Grant that I might be interested in putting in my p/u truck after I get a SWP radio from Radioactive. I am thinking about putting amps on both radios. I know the radio I buy from RadioActive will already be setup to run an amp but what would I need to do to my Grant.
Also is there a difference between an amplifier and a CW transmitter. I always thought Texas Star was amps but I keep seeing them advertised as CW transmitters.
Thanks for all the help.
