2010 Dodge ram install
I bought a 2010 Dodge Ram 1500, Quad Cab, Big Horn Edition. I am wanting to put my 29 in it, but I don't know what to do. This truck has a center console (pics can be seen on Dodge web site) with the shifter in the middle. Problem 1, where to put the radio; Problem 2, what to do for an antenna. I know the general opinion about co-phased whips but I have done a bit of research. With my old truck (F350 Superduty) I ran a 102 and didn't really care about looks. This time I'm going for looks, but still have a decent working system.
I have considered the Wilson 1000, But I don't want to run a mag mount nor do I want to drill a hole in the roof of a brand new truck. I was thinking about going dual 4 foot fiberglass whips. 4 footers would put a little better then half of the antenna over the roof and the shape of the cab is rather curved on the sides, so they wouldn't be all that close to the cab, or at least a good portion wouldn't be. The whips would be 6 feet apart, and I was going to use stake hole mounts.
Anyone with experience in running dual whips on a pick up truck, please share how it turned out.
Any input would be much appreciated
Thanks fellas

i tryed running dual 4' firesticks and didnt have any luck. a few people around town run with the dual antennas but they ony hook up one antenna (the other one is just for looks) they say they have good luck with the setup. as for the radio maybe either a overhead counsel if you dont already have one. i have a 2000 dodge and had my radio on the top of the dash with that super strong plastic velcro never had any problems

Re: 2010 Dodge ram install
I have a 2009 Dodge Ram 1500. It has a fold-down triple cup holder in the center of the dash. I mounted my radio on the side of that. I used two screws on one side of the bracket, and rested the other side of the bracket on the "lip" of the cup holder tray. I put a rubber washer between the lip & bracket for cushioning. It's very stable. The radio is beside my right leg while driving and I can easily access all the controls.
My antenna is a 102" whip, mounted off to the side of the ball hitch with a Workman hitch adapter. The coax runs along the driver side of the truck to the firewall, entering the cab through a grommet above the brake pedal.
I'm using a rubber strap to minimize the whipping of the antenna. It's secured to one of the screws in the tailgate, and the antenna runs through it. I believe it is a 21" strap. It works great. An added bonus is that it prevents the whip from slapping the tailgate.
My SWR with this setup is below 1.2 across the band.
Might sound kinda ugly but it's actually a very neat looking install. I did not want to drill holes in the cupholder, but in the end I did it and I have no regrets. Believe me I am a neat freak when it comes to my truck and I didn't want anything tacky going on. I think I succeeded.

Re: 2010 Dodge ram install
Here is what I wound up doing. Hopefully this can give ram1500 some ideas on his install in his stick Dodge. I ended up mounting the radio on the dash with Scotch heavy duty double stick tape.

Re: 2010 Dodge ram install
I have a couple of install pics in a 2010 Dodge Crew Cab in mobile setups. Had a **Censored** of a time trying to get a 5' Wilson Silverload to tune out behind the cab in the middle and in a stake pocket both. Would not get below 2 on the swr. Just that antenna and not normally represenative of Wilson 's in general. Ended up using a "Hustler" in the stake pocket mount. Easily getting out 10 miles or so on lowest power setting with a Stryker 490. Have more pictures on the **Censored** in the "Export" section.
Ran my power and coax wires out the firewall in the location that would normally have the clutch rod going through. If you run your coax there it will take allmost all of 18ft to get back around to the bed and a stake pocket mount. That is coming from a center console location. I just had to neatly strap it down and there was NO excess to coil up anywhere. PM me if you have any questions. I'll help if I can.

Re: 2010 Dodge ram install
I drive a 98 Dakota, a friend built a bracket that mounts to the floor of the bed & to the top rail behind the cab in the center, & the top of the bracket stands just inches above the cab. I run a K40 Plus with a 5" shaft & that puts the coil above the cab. SWR's are dang near flat. Just thought I'd share that with ya. Good luck with whatever u decide to do. Hopefully this pic will post.
