Same circuit board as the S9 or S6, with a few improvements......not bad........as said before, pretty snazzy! Not my first choice, but not my last by far! You get alot of radio for the money, and we all like that!

new stryker radio?

Post by The Tech »

Okay, I think I'm actually torn between a superwackpacked General Lee or a superwackpacked Stryker 440. What do you guys think? I like the readings I've seen on the general lee. And I've heard a few guys with them on the road (just base models, no superwackpacked, of course). And they sound pretty darn good even then. So I could imagine (from what I've read about radioactive) that the superwackpacked job would make the general lee scream.

However...it seems to me that a lot of the radios today all look the same. I got into CB with the Cobra 29LTD Classic. But really, when compared to the Unidens, and the Connex...and Generals...they all "LOOK" the same (keep in mind all I'm talking about is cosmetics for now). Having said that, I really like the overall look of the stryker radio. With the blue LEDs and the backlit faceplate, and the round analog needle...I just really think I prefer the cosmetic design of this radio. I guess maybe because it's different.

So having said all of that...does anybody know how the QUALITY (both is audio and build) would compare between these two radios? I'm kinda torn. I guess if the stryker will perform as good as the general lee...maybe I'm sold more on the stryker. I know what I am sold on, though...that's some superwackpacked! :Peace!:

Can anyone offer any advice? Keep in mind, unless something drastically changes my mind, I'm looking for something to run barefoot (or atleast with no external amp). And also something I can perhaps easily wire into my cigarette lighter for power. Thanks in advance. You have all been a goldmine of information for me since picking up this hobby only a few weeks ago.

General Lee, by far has a better board in it, proven,,,,Basically the same as a connex 3300hp,,,but the Stryker 440, will probably give you more watts, heck of a radio for the money,,,,,,,I'm like you I would be torn
UPDATE 04-12-2006
All new SR-440HP radios using the M1104 will be configured so you can use the SD1446 as a drop in replacement. This includes the next shipment of radios which will arrive in mid April. These radios will be easily identified because the heat sink will be drilled to accept transistors with both case or mounting styles.
This should eliminate ANY concern regarding the transistor used because the SD1446 is very easy to source.

I don't know enough about radios to know what I'm looking for in that pic of the finals. I know the general lee has "duel finals." Does the stryker as well?

I DO know...that upclose pic of the stryker is beautiful...in my opinion, when compared the general lee.

Shew! I'm so torn! I don't know what to do! :'(

The Styker has one final, but its a big final, will produce more power than the dual 2sc1969 finals that are in the General
The new Stryker SR-440 is a next generation 10 Meter Amateur Radio that was built entirely with the operator in mind. We've loaded the radio with real world, common sense features that make using the radio a blast. Highlighted below are some of the more important features that the SR-440 offers.

Important Features Include:

High Power Final Transistor - The SR-440 uses a single high power flange mounted transistor that provides the user with 60 + watts PEP. If you want be heard, the SR-440 has the power required to do some serious talking.

Digital Echo with/ Dual Front Mounted Controls - Provides the operator a much wider range of effects and control than typical factory or aftermarket echo boards. Our board is able to reproduce the human voice with virtually no distortion providing maximum clarity and enjoyment.

Two Different Roger Beeps - Two different roger beeps are included with the SR-440HP. These are controlled using a switched that is located on the front panel. This is a feature that you will find on virtually no other radio direct from the factory. Most importantly the roger beep can be turned off when it's not needed.
Variable Power Control – Allows the operator to adjust or vary their carrier from one watt to over 50 watts PEP. This is a must have feature if the operator intends to use an external power device.

Variable Talk Back Control – The infamous talk back squeal is virtually eliminated with our independently controlled talk back circuitry. The operator can adjust the volume to the perfectThe General Lee has dual finals, but the styker has one big final, and will produce more power than the General,,,,,Heres what they say about the Styker level as operating conditions require. Best of all the user no longer has to turn down the microphone gain to stop the annoying squeal that is often the result of poor design or cost cutting at the production level.

Up-Armored™ Receiver- Our exclusive receiver protection works even under the harshest conditions, such as those experienced at a busy truck stop with many operators running high power radios. In addition our receiver filtering is tighter than most radios on the market. This means adjacent channel rejection is improved.

Back Lighted Controls - Our exclusive face plate design provides operators with back lighted controls, making adjustments even in the darkest conditions easy. Best of all our design is extremely durable and can be dimmed using the dimmer switch located on the front panel of the radio.

Wow. I didn't know the Stryker lit up. Thats really good looking.

If you get a General, you could make it better looking by getting a faceplate sticker customized like you want it from Jason at MTNDEWNUTSALES.

I don't think he can make it light up for you though.

Whatever you choose, you can't go wrong cause it will be superwackpacked!

Great proven circuit board, or great looks.............you pick! Both are snazzy. Alls I can say is VERY FEW have the strykers instock, so if you want one, Id act fast as I have them but only for a VERY short time!
Dont make choices so hard, get what you want and dont look back for a second. If you go with the g. lee you'll have a awesome radio. If you go with the stryker and love it, GREAT! If not you can sell it faster then nearly anyother since its rare and new! Both scream! I never tell people how to go. Some dealers do but I never do. Both are great, I personally like the Lee better, but the stryker has more fun factor.

Now wouldn't that be a perfect world! I wish I could afford both. I also wish I could afford a nice new full-size 4x4 truck. The lil wil just looks goofy as **** on-top of my Tore-**Censored**! :-? And I know anything taller is just going to look goofier and goofier the taller I go.

First keep in mind that I'm coming from a stock Cobra 29LTD Classic that I bought at the local truck stop a few weeks ago. I guess I'll have to put that thing on eBay and get what I can out of it to put toward the new radio...

And I think I might just go balls to the wall and go with a new stryker. Mike warranties is radios for life anyway, right? I got a pm into Mike for a price check on it compared to the general lee, so we'll see. I'm not expecting it to be much different on price than the general, or at least that's what I'm hoping.

BTW Mike, if you see this...set one of those strykers aside, and you and I'll talk payment soon. ;)

Shew...I'm getting excited! I feel like a kid again anticipating what Santa is bringing me. :06-07app:

I have a swp General Lee and I love it, in fact today I contacted a guy in Mississippi and he told me I almost not him off his chair I was so loud, btw I live in Virginia. However I know 2 guys with the stryker hooked to xforce 2x6's and they sound good as well. I was just like you when I was trying to order my radio. Both are going to cost about the same. In my opinion I would go with what is proven even though the new is very nice looking. as far as your antenna goes, I dont know what you drive but I have a 2005 Grand Marquis with a wilson 5000 mag mount on the roof and it dont look bad at all and it works very very well.

I drive a 99 Ford Taurus. The lil wil looks fine up there on the roof, but that's 36 inches. I'm afraid a 62 inch 5000 would just look goofy as hell up there. Plus, I'm sometimes in and out of parking garages, which I fear would be a problem with the 5000.

I do notice that the 5000 comes with a "trunk" mount. The mag mount won't work on my trunk because it's not magnetic. Do you think the 5000 trunk mounted would still outperform the lil wil magmount on the roof? Hrmmmm.....

I'm waiting on a swp stryker 440, and now I'm feeling like I should upgrade the antenna as well. Shew...this CB bug has really bit me hard. I'll be broke in no time. lol

Height is might, if your worried about looking goofy this is the wrong hobby! We're all a bunch of goofs! The bigger the better! LOL
(( thats why I married a good looking wife, people can say look at that dorks antenna, how did he score a beautiful wife))!!!

Id take the antenna off the roof if going into a parking garage. Id never sacrifice performance for looks. If your wanting performance then a good antenna is a must. The biggest radio, on a lil antenna is a lil radio!
