I noticed the post below and thought I would bring the Johnson Messenger 1 topic up some. I have one that I key up on every now and then. All of our local "group" says it sounds clean and clear. It drives a 6 tube Elkin very well. Modulates it up to 1K watts with ease. Love them old Tubers. Now I must get the rest of them, and the Messenger 223's up and running. Oh, and the Messenger II also.

The only radios I use are Johnson Messengers a 223 and a Viking 430 for 40 channels with Turner Transisterised Mics on both, IMO you cant beat um the new stuff just doesnt compare!!

I have a Messenger 430 too. Its a nice old radio. Back in the day of the 2nd CB craze, (in the early 70's) I ran a Messenger 123A mobile. It always would go where the others couldnt. Still have it too. It is "Old Reliable". The 123's are my fav mobile transistor Johnsons.

I use a MIDLAND 75-822 HAND HELD IN MY CAR HOOKED TO A LIL WILL ANTENNA ,WORKS REAL WELL .

Ive used c b's since the mid 1970s.The first one I ever talked on was a Messenger 123a.I like Johnsons so well,Ive started a collection.So far,I have 6 Messenger II blackface's, 2 223's, a 124M , a 352D mobile and a 4740 mobile.They wont win any beauty prizes,but they do the job...
