I am going to be installing about 3 base radios. I already know how I'm going to install one of the radios but I have a few questions about another. I have a Royce 582 and I am wondering what the yellow wire is for, and where can I find manual?
Also, To make an antenna I was told that I need to make ground plane radials, do they need to be mounted on the wall in a stud or anything or should I just treat them like regular antennas?

Yellow wire? Beats me? I've never heard of a yellow wire on a radio before (that is for any special purpose anyway)? And the Royce radios are fairly old. I'm not sure where you might find any manuals on them. Can't see them as being unique to any other base radio installation though. So generally speaking there is nothing special about them that would dictate a "yellow wire" that I can think of? Perhaps it's an additional ground wire off the chassis? You can simply follow it and see, but if so, that would simply hook up to an earth ground.SgtSlaughter wrote:I am going to be installing about 3 base radios. As far as base station antennas, not all of them have ground plane radials. Dipoles for instance don't, nor do some of the "turn key" antennas like the A99 and Imax. You can use them if you want, but they'll work just fine without. Some aluminum antennas use ground plane radials for counterpoise, but they mount to the antenna mount and support structure...not the wall. So studs, walls, none of that have a lick to do with the antenna itself.
You might consider pulling up some typical base station antenna installations on the forum and web. It sounds to me like you are a little confused on the support structure vs. the antenna.
Good luck.

switch power? for a mobile set up some radios had a constant power and a switch power so you would leave it on by accident.
