Need info on palomar elite 500 base amp power supply combo
a LOCAL GUY here has a palomar elite 500 base amp power supply combo for sale for $200.00..Does anyone know what these went for new and if they still make them and how many watts they do?I been looking for a web site that sells them but i cant seem to find any info out about them....if anyone know anyhting about them or where they sell them let me know thanks.

This is a 500 Watt Base Palomar Amplifier. Works on 110 A/C, just plug it in to the wall and talk. Mossfet transistors provide the very best modulation. No power supply needed. Also serves as a 35 amp power supply for your radio. You don't need a separate power supply for your mobile radio.

OK i looked at the amp and power supply combo again i hooked a radio up to it but i had the press the reset button evey time i turned the thing on to make it work right then it was ok....how would i go about hooking up a meter inline with this amp to show the wattage?theres 2 going out of the amp one to the radio and one to the antenna but the meter has the same thing,one goes to the radio and one coax goes to the antenna im stuck.im sure it wont do 500 watts they never do what they say.most 500 watts do about 400 sometimes even 300 or 350 watts.i guess palomar thinks they can fool us.lol

They are made that way to disguise them as a power supply. If someone was to check your station or pop in to, you'd judst cut it off and back on, and it would simply be a 12 volt power supply. These type amps are still made here by a local tech WITH the Palomar name on them, and available through a local cb shop, but i'm afraid if I post the link to the cb shop that has access to them, it would step on the sponsors toes, so..... sorry man, you'll have to find that one out on your own. *shrug* Sad, isn't it?

Umm.... close, but no cookie... that's NOT what he is talking about at all. The one he is talking about looks like a big AC/DC converter power supply. The pic you put up is OBVIOUSLY an amplifier, and is NOT the converter that you hook your cb radio up to for base use, which is what the supply he is talking about is made to appear to be.BigBopper wrote:Heres a sponsor limk

Generally, the Palomar will do what it is showing on the front and a little more. My 400 does about 550. I had a mini-8 that did about 850 undriven. As far as being worth $200, DEFINITELY. Buy it, you won't be disappointed, but don't expect to see 700 or 800 watts out of it. You'll see the 500 it's rated all day.
