Welcome to the forum! :D
First off I'd ask about the antenna system you chose, vehicle you mounted it to, and the details of that?
Secondly, what did you use for power source for the radio?
Not quite enough info' to make any suggestions in my opinion.
Good to have you aboard though.
I'm using a radio shack threw glass antenna like a 36"
I'm using the 12v power source plug for power.
i get alot of stac and hear people in the distance.

ps thanks I'm relay excited to start talking.
Well, if you've got that antenna connected to the radio and the power cord going to the cigarette lighter plug and a microphone, everything should be set up right. You can adjust your squelch knob to get rid of the static. As Thumper said, if you want to be able to hear and talk better, you're going to have to get a little bit better antenna. Those glass mount ones really don't work well at all. The Wilson Lil Will would be a ok choice or any of the Wilson mag mounts work well too.

Well Dave, ya see, it's like this... your antenna is the MOST important part of your rig. Even a crappy little radio will talk good and receive well on a good antenna, that is, within the limits of the manufacturing inside it AS LONG as the radio is in tune and aligned properly. I have to agree with the others on this one... if you want an economical antenna, buy a Lil Wil magnet mount. It has good reception, and you could still remove it and throw it inside when you're not using it. Just be careful not to damage the coax by slamming it in the door, etc....daver6 wrote:well i have a swr in-line. how how do i just everything all i get is static. if i turn the squelch knob to far i don't hear anything.

ps if i get another antenna i would like to get a smaller one not like a big **Sensored** whip
I don't know anything about the RS 1000, but if it has an RF Gain on it, make sure it is opened up too, as if it isn't, that will cut out the distant signals you are receiving, opting for reception of only the closer stations.
Additionally, don't fret if you're getting a lot of static... with the conditions the way they are presently, my radio runs 8 to 10 "S" units of static most of the day. That doesn't mean anything is wrong with your radio, just means that the conditions are limiting your reception due to the solar activity, etc. Maybe some of the more technical minded people on here can explain propagation theory to you far better than I can, if you just ask them.
Dave, maybe if ya tell us what location you're in... not specific address, but maybe just city/state, someone living close by could give you some help. I'm sure there are plenty of people on here that have experience setting up radios and tuning swr's, so surely one of them would be willing to give you a hand!daver6 wrote:well i have tryed to tune it but i still get nothing im so lost.

I hate to be a wet blanket also but the thru the window antenna's are nothing but trouble, my Father in law put one on his Dodge truck and even though it was aligned properly it blew the finals in his radio, I gave him an old Frances antenna and mirror mount I had laying around and he is much happier. I would think that you will get nowhere fast with what you have for an antenna, your radio is probably fine but you have to step up to a better antenna.
think about it , that design antenna was for cell phones, not really for CB rf's , even though someone out there had this idea to hide your CB antenna as a glass mount,,,its like cutting the coax and putting it 1/4" apart and allowing the RF to jump,,,those type antennas end up hurting the radio,,,hard to tune and might burn up the final as my son did,,,if you have a 95T,,that antenna will not handle the wattage,,max is 50 watts,,Midland, Workman, all these brand antennas, 50 watts max, 2 reasons, you can't get the best SWR's and should only run 25 watts max out of that antenna,,,rule of thumb,,,only run half of the max watts in any antenna, if they say it will take 1000 watts,,,thats short peak,,,but 500 watts continous load,,,hope that helps,,,,don't take a chance on burning up you Galaxy
I've got to go with these guys on the antenna, daver6. These guys (forum members) lead me in the direction of a Wilson Mag1000 when I was installing my new SWP General Lee and it was the best move I could have made. I changed from a bed stake mounted fiberglass antenna to a cab roof mounted Wilsom Mag1000 and the difference was huge! I hated to bite the bullet also but it was well worth it.
Yea, they are not hard to find. You shouldn't have any problem at all finding one. Since you were going with a thru glass mount, I'm assuming you were wanting to go low profile as far as an antenna is concerned. If that's the case, you may want to look at the short load whip antenna option with the Mag1000 which is 39" instead of the 62". Not sure how the 39" short load whip compares to the 62" whip because I haven't tried the 62". I went with the 39" and it works great! Mounted on the cab roof it still bumps some of the drive-thru shelters and teller machine shelters but nothing like what a 62" would. I just went out and took a few pics of mine installed and will try to link you to the pics in another reply to this post if I can figure out how to do it. I don't think the guys want pics posted on here.
Dunno, man... don't see a place here for pics OR watergates... be nice to have though...Red Drum wrote:Can anyone tell me how/where to post some pics so I can post a link in a reply here. I'm wanting to show daver6 some pics of my antenna.
Ya might try uploading them on Imageshack and paste the url here....
