How to run the power

#35557

Post by GOTA Go »

:D I will be calling Mike at RA very soon to order swp general Lee from him. What is the best way to run the power to it? I heard something about running straight from the battery. What gauge? And do attach wire to normal power cord. :?:

Easiest way to do it, in my opinion, would be to go to Walmart and look in the car audio section for an Amp Hookup Kit. Usually about $30. It comes with all the wire, fuses, connectors that you will need to make it a clean setup. It even comes with a distribution block so you can run the positive wire from the radio directly into it and not have to worry about attaching the radio wire to the bigger wire from the battery. You just stick the positive radio wire in and tighten the screw down. Very clean and easy install.

Most people, to reduce engine noise, run the negative wire from the radio to a seat post. Or another well grounded spot inside the vehicle.

You're really going to like that General Lee radio if that's what you're still planning on. Ive had one for a month or so now and have no complaints. I talked to a guy for 15 minutes a few nights ago until we started talking about equipment. He was very surprised and said he thought I was talking on a base station and not a mobile. I got the RA250 with it also.

Sun some good thick wire.. 8gauge or something from the battery to the radio with an inline fuse close to the batter for safety.
Also run the ground good thick 8gauge or so.. about 3ft worth to the seat post.
You will have alot better power supply and alot less likely to have alternator whine.

Where at is lawndale NC?
