First off for all you other old timers here yes I am back again. Ok then
I was forced to shift trucks the other day and now am installing everything into my new truck. Cobra 29 LTD BT and brand new 3' Firestick since my 10K is a bit too big for my current truck so I may sell it if I can find someone interested. Antenna is mounted driver side off of the edge of the hood and connected, however I know there are still some adjustments that will need to be made. The screw on top is almost all of the way out and SWR knob is all the way to min and I still get a red light when speaking on the antenna light on the radio face. Will a ground wire on the antenna mount help cut things down some? Been a while since my last install and the others have not had these kind of problems so some guidance will be appreciated.
New install hiccups...

Totally depends on why the SWR is high. It might be because of ground plane, or vehicle ground or that that 3ft Firestick is not great to begin with. You need an SWR meter to check it to see what the antenna is resonating. On Cobra radios, the ant light comes on at 2.0:1 so that isn't even that bad. So i would check it on ch 20 with an SWR meter and see what it is reading and why. It can be many things like stated above and or bad PL259, or bad coax or .......
