Are these old cobra ssb radios any good? I guy I know wants to sell one for 20$. He knows nothing about it. All I could find on the net was an old advertisement saying now you can have 120 channels and 12 watts of power instead of 4. Just wondering if it was a good radio to play around with. Thanks

I have 3 Cobra 138's, but they are not XLR's-just plain 138's.
They are great radio's, and I believe they were a precursor to the 148's.
The only thing about them that I don't dig too much is the mic. They had a funky headphone jack that they used with a 3 wire setup (internal relay switching). Although it's sort of funky, it actually works very well, and mike parts are not an issue. I've gotten new cords and plugs from Ken's Electronics.
If you don't pay that dude $20.00 for the Cobra then have him message me here on the board. I'll give him $20.00 right now. Although they are not new, and have that retro look, I get nothing but good reports with strong modulation. I think they look cool!
