Budget Base Setup Beginnings....

I just picked up this stuff I found on Craigslist for $40 total :D to start a base setup in my apartment (click on thumbnails):







Cobra 148GTL (made July 1991 in the Philippines)
TELEX TURNER Road King 56 microphone
Truckers Series PS-300 external speaker

The guy I bought the stuff from didn't know much about CBs (it came with a truck he bought), but he said everything on the radio works fine. I'll have it peaked and tuned, though.

I don't have an antenna yet, but BigBopper suggested a Saturn and 521 Houston suggested a Double Bazooka dipole (thanks, guys!). Any other ideas?

Also, anyone know where I can get a new faceplate for the 148?

I have 2 148 gtls and talk skip easy they are good radios i love to use sideband with them :D u got a deal.

'Tain't nuttin' wrong with the older 148's, just a mobile version of the 2000's. Lots of mods possible. I have a bunch of them that I've garnered over the years. Never had any regrets, 'specialy with the Phillipino version.
