AC Power

I went shopping last night for a power strip for my equipment and instead came home with a 15amp surge protector with 1250 Joule protection, and rmi/rfi filtering (although not much). Good idea? Is this ok for use with a small amp?

To add more info... I've found that if my computer is turned on (the screen mainly) I pick up a small amount of interference (with all radio equipment grounded). Enough to make it difficult to understand distant transmissions. I bought a high end surge protector/power strip/rmi,rfi filter for use on my tv/stereo equipment a few years ago. I noticed a dramatic difference in that interference (slight picture buzz) and small screen bolts disappeared from my tv picture (such as what you sometimes see when air conditioning starts up, or the refrigerator kicks in--heavy AC loads). I'm wondering if anyone runs a filtered protector on their radio equipment, if it's helped, and will it impede an amplifiers performance? Instead of unplugging equipment during an electrical storm I could just turn off the switch on the surge protector. Any thoughts or am I crazy???

To follow up...
The surge protector did nothing to clean up the interference from the computer with its rmi/rfi filter. I'll keep it though as it still works as a switchable power strip with some surge protection, making it easy to de-power when storms come.
